Winter weddings are popular because during the holidays there is a spirit of... togetherness. -Geriann Eddy, President of Fine Affairs

The crisp air and dreamy mood make winter weddings a delight!

Go Green

Encouraging brides to add a hint of the holidays into their décor, Geriann suggests starting with oversized wreaths. Their round shape is symbolic of love and they can be less expensive at this time of year. Deep green foliage and cherry red berries pop against a background of white. Natural greenery can be used a lot more – pine boughs and cedar add a delectable woodiness. Laying a long green center garland atop a mixture of table shapes (round and rectangle) adds interest to the space. Large Amerillis blooms are also nice focal point.

Illuminate your love with lots of lights!

Get Glowing. Capitalize on the classic elegance of white with all-white linens, napkins, chargers and all-white centerpieces. Add a bit of glitter with gorgeous silver hues.

Illuminate your love with lots of lights! Fill lanterns with pillar candles, layer an abundance of candles in varying heights or add the new-again flare of a “Mr. & Mrs.” neon sign for an unforgettable backdrop.

“Lighting with soft shades adds warmth and softens the look,” said Eddy

Heat Things Up

The best thing about the cold outside is snuggling up with someone you love. Incorporate supple, rich velvet fabrics or throw toasty plaid blankets over the bride and groom's chairs. Fur will look and feel fabulous. A fur trim on a high table-skirt linen adds a grace and style made for winter weddings.

Gifts of the Season

Planning a wedding for this time of year does come with specific challenges to consider. Reserving the vendors early is crucial because you’ll be competing with holiday party bookings. Travel can also be an issue – often the price tag of flights is higher and of course, there’s the unpredictable weather to take into account. If you’re willing to take the risk, the benefits of winter weddings can be beautiful. Gift wrapping favors gets everyone in on the joy of the season. Plus, you can take advantage of the already handsomely decorated places around town for your photography sessions, advises Eddy.

“All you need is the horse and carriage and you’re all set.”
