Our Story...

It was summer of 2020 and the height of Covid lockdown in Oakland, CA. Sumin was baking through the Great British Bake Off to stay sane. She made her friend Mai’s favorite dessert, Mary Berry’s tiramisu, and decided to (safely) drop it off for her. Mai’s mom was visiting and, within minutes of meeting Sumin, saw an opportunity to matchmake.

Soon after in Brooklyn, NY, Ben received a text from his childhood friend Mai asking, “Would you be interested in meeting someone over here?” Ben replied, “Of course!” before realizing that “here” did not mean New York. But then it was the height of Covid lockdown, Zoom dates were in, and what’s the harm in giving it a shot?

After three months of video calls, remote cooking dates, and Lord of the Rings (extended edition, of course) watch parties, Ben bought a one-way ticket to California and finally met Sumin in person. They were happy to confirm that it was, in fact, not too good to be true. Months later, Ben and Sumin decided to get married. They packed up Sumin’s things in California and drove cross country, met each other’s families, and moved in together in New York.

The Historic Barns of Nipmoose was the perfect place to celebrate the couple’s union with family and friends. After a personalized wedding ceremony in a storybook setting, Ben and Sumin performed a Korean traditional ceremony.

The season, location, food, music, and people made for a truly wonderful, unforgettable day.
