SMOOTH AS SILK:

Franklin Square’s WillFitUin Becomes Mosca Alterations

WRITTEN BY Megin Potter

Once you've said "yes" to the dress,
the proper alterations give you a flawless fit, making you look even better than you imagined walking down the aisle.

For more than a decade, women have been going to the beautiful, historic Franklin Square, within the heart of Downtown Saratoga Springs, for alterations.

During the pandemic, seamstress Yana LaPage, the owner of the WillFitUin alteration shop since 2011, moved to Florida. In August 2021, fellow seamstress Megan Mosca, who has worked there since 2017, purchased WillFitUin. Now, she’s renaming it Mosca Alterations.

Cut From the Same Cloth

What started out as a temporary position while she attended school at FIT became a full-time gig for Megan Mosca after her graduation in 2020.

Since becoming owner, Megan has doubled the store’s staff and given the interior a refresh.

Megan’s work is complemented by that of seamstress Courtney Schadewald (who began at WillFitUin 8 years ago). Together, they can make your dream dress a reality.

“We come at alterations from different angles and have different technical training,” said Megan.

“Brides come to us with all sorts of ideas, we work with them to bring those ideas to life.”

When You’re Coming Unraveled at the Seams

In addition to their beautiful location, busy brides love the convenience of having alterations done right next to the shop where they purchased their dress. The elegant Lily Saratoga bridal boutique is in the same building as Mosca Alterations.

“It certainly takes weight off the brides’ shoulders. It creates a very seamless operation, from buying the dress through to the alterations,” said Megan, adding, “We work alongside each other fabulously.”

When there are special orders needed for additional lace, fabric, or appliques from the designer, Megan just pops in next door.

Hanging By a Thread

It may take between two and seven fittings to get your perfect fit.

While Megan recommends that brides make their first alteration appointment at least three months before the big day (to allow for custom orders from the designer) she is also there for her clients during the unexpected.

When stress gets the best of them, it is not uncommon for a bride’s weight to fluctuate just days before the wedding. This can be especially problematic when wearing strapless gowns, which require a lot of attention to detail at the waist to fit correctly. To remedy this situation, Megan can adjust the zipper and have the dress ready within a day or two, if needed.

What she really enjoys, however, is stretching her creative muscles.

“I’m a sucker for the nitty-gritty creative stuff… The unique touches, such as an intricate neckline, standout applique, or exceptional beading.”

“No two brides are the same. It’s like completing a puzzle – using my creativity and skills to put a bride in her perfect dress.”

Wear Your Heart on Your Sleeve

Megan specializes in bridal gowns, bridesmaids’ dresses, women, and girls’ formal wear, but if you need a great tailor for the guys, don’t worry, she’s got you covered with trusted recommendations.

“We just want to help you look good for your big day,” she said.

And, to get what you want, during your fittings, speak up, Megan advises.

“Brides always tell me, ‘I haven’t done this before.’ I always tell them, ‘Don’t worry, I have.”

Tell her about any concerns you have about the look and the comfort of the garment.

“I stress to people to say something. I do want to hear your feedback. It’s a process.”
